West Springfield, MA

Applied Software Technologies, a leading provider of collaborative and mobile solutions, today announced that it helped the Children's Study Home improve communication and collaboration through wireless and wired infrastructure technology. By improving and extending connectivity between its seven sites throughout Springfield and to the Internet, the Children's Study Home has realized immediate efficiencies in its day-to-day operations.

Using a state-of-the-art portfolio of technology, including the Cisco Aironet® Series of Wireless Bridges and Access Points, as well as Microsoft® Server 2003, Windows XP and Exchange, the solution provides a robust and scalable foundation for the future.

"It had been clear for some time that we needed to more effectively communicate with the community that we serve," said Steve McCafferty, Executive Director of the Children's Study Home. "The Internet is a critical tool for many of the agencies that we work with, and we simply couldn't be as responsive as we needed to be," he added.

The Children's Study Home's Mill Pond Campus showcases how wireless infrastructure proved to be more cost-effective than a wired one. While the Middle School had some existing wiring that could be used, the High School and Residence were better served by a wireless infrastructure. "Our goal when providing any solution is to leverage to the extent possible our customers' existing systems," said Edward Garibian, President of Applied Software Technologies. "In the case of Mill Pond, the value was in wireless. The result is easier and much more flexible access to information from a user standpoint; and scalability and security from an administrative standpoint," Garibian added.

"For those of us who travel, including our case workers, the ability to access information while on the road is extremely valuable", said McCafferty. "These and other improvements, including electronic mail, will certainly improve efficiency. And, McCafferty concluded, "we were very pleased to distribute our monthly newsletter for April, electronically."
